Carrie Underwood’s Cathartic ‘Cry Pretty’ at the Opry
Carrie Underwood begins performing in a restrictive way, turning into a story about the futility of trying to hide the inner pain. But as you reach the second song choir, you are in the full singer mode, reducing the amount of voice pressure without effort, stretching from high and high tones. ‘You can lie pretty and say it’s okay / you can smile nice and just get away / falsify your way through anything / but you can not cry beautifully’, sang, with background singers in Opry trying to match her intensity.
The film ‘Cry Pretty’ is the only major track of the Underwood album to be released on September 16th. This project represents a new chapter for the star – the first of its kind since signing with Capitol Records Nashville as well as the first time it has been working as a co-producer on one of its albums. The remaining Underwood tour dates this summer include four other appearances at the Grand Ole Opry (10 and 11 August), a two-day trip to the UK in September and a show in Australia on September 29.
